ESSENCE kicks off the ESSENCE
February 19, 2010 (New York, NY) - Today, ESSENCE kicks off the ESSENCE "It
Girl" model search in partnership with Elite Model Management and Pulse Mgmt.
In an effort to address the lack of diversity on the runways, ESSENCE and Elite will conduct a nationwide search for the new African-American "It" model. The winner --to be announced in May --will be featured in the September 2010 Fall Fashion issue of ESSENCE magazine and receive a one-year contract with Elite Model Management.
Live castings will be conducted in Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York and photos will be accepted online at www.essence.com/itgirl. ENTER NOW!!!!
An expert panel of judges comprised of ESSENCE editors, Elite managers and fashion industry VIPs will attend each of the open castings to evaluate the entrants and 5 finalists will be flown to New York City for a special modeling boot camp, which will be documented for the Making of an It Girl web series on Essence.com. As a father I want to protect my daughter as much as possible, so I have started down this road with as much research as I could. I must say all the comments I found online where not all positive. We on the other hand have found the comments not to be true! From the beginning when we met Vikki at Gateway, to the very informative presentation on your company, and onto the photo shoot.
We have been made to feel very comfortable and felt the information provided by your staff, and by 5th Element has been great! You have all gone a long way to help a young women feel so good about her self. As a side note M'Kenna has improved her grades in school to all A's and B's. You have improved her life, and ours! PULSE MGMT'S Hannah Holman Goes Hard

If the trend of models turned DJs continues, real DJs might have a problem landing gigs. The latest model to join the musical world is Hannah Holman, who provided her tunes for an early evening party in the W Lounge backstage at the Bryant Park Hotel to celebrate Amanda Ross' new position as fashion director for W Hotels. Fresh off the Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs runway, Hannah called in reinforcements for her tunes. "They told me to make a playlist, and I was nervous it wouldn't be what everyone liked," she explained. "I'm quite insecure about my music, so I went to my agency and they gave me their favorites and some classics I wouldn't know because I'm too young."
Despite her fears, Hannah had everyone dancing at the teeny lounge that was packed, so much so that there was a huge line out the door. Along with the requisite headphones, Hannah had another ear accessory: huge H earrings-which everyone was coveting-that she wore on a British Vogue shoot and luckily was able to keep. Post New York Fashion Week, she's off to London, Milan, and Paris, so you're sure to see her on the runways.

The Open Your Heart
benefit to provide food, medicine and shelter to Haitian children, organized by the non-profit group Lakay Pam and sponsored by Elite New York, drew some of fashion's top movers and shakers.
