Olivia Hamilton on Health

Well apparently this week is Liz and Olivia week, but these two beautiful best friends keep providing us with material that is too good not to share with all of you. Yesterday morning Olivia Hamilton posted a Facebook status about health that really verbalized exactly what we try to tell our models all the time. In order to model you have to have a certain figure, and really it is more about keeping up your overall health, than just losing weight. In order to be able to model you have to have the stamina to be in front of the camera (which sometimes entails running, jumping, dancing, etc.), not to mention be able to run from casting to casting, and be able to do a lot of it in stilettos. Having models who will be able to keep themselves healthy is key, because if a model is starving herself to just be thin there is no way she will be able to keep up with her career (not to mention how unhealthy that is!).

Olivia said, "I think a lot of people struggle with the concept of health. Just because someone's skinny doesn't mean they are healthy and just because someone is healthy doesn't mean they are skinny. Any size person can be malnourished and any size person can be healthy to a degree. The difference is a diet of veggies, fruit, lean proteins, and whole grains versus a diet of skipping meals, restricting calories, etc. With the right amount of healthy portion control, healthy foods, and exercising, your results will be far better than the other route. I don't understand why people choose to do it the unhealthy way instead of increase their life span and live a happy, healthy life. In the long run that's what matters."

So the moral of the story is, we want you all to be healthy, especially as the New Year approaches and everyone is making their resolutions. Don't look for short cuts to a perfect body, instead focus on your overall health and choose a way to get healthy that you can sustain for the long run.

We're All About Larisa!

In case you missed it, having a lifestyle blog is the thing to do, with Gwenyth Paltrow, Blake Lively, and Reese Witherspoon all launching their own sites.  We have to say that our model Larisa Fraser Braun's blog is our current favorite. She has a ton of healthy recipes, that are also not only delicious but they look beautiful too!  She also includes tips for clean eating and glimpses into her lovely life with her MLB star husband and sweet baby girl.  We think we are going to make THIS POST our new mantra for eating, and we need to start referring our models to it as well.  We love that Larisa is not necessarily about the numbers on the scale, but how to eat well to feel and look great.  That's our kind of girl.

We are so proud of Larisa, who we discovered in Utah, and then launched her modeling career.  She is an amazing mother and and incredible person who we are blessed to know and love.

Larisa's GQ Cover was one of our proudest moments!

The "Perfect" Female Body

There is a lot of talk about having a "perfect" body, but one rarely ever hears someone talking about how they have actually attained it.  We loved THIS ARTICLE we just read about how the ideal female body has changed over the years.

In an industry like modeling, having a flawless figure is part of the job.  At Pulse Management we are not immune to the industry's standards, but we also can have a say in what we think is beautiful and who we want to represent.  When we signed Hye Rim Park, there weren't really any working Asian supermodels at the time.  We saw the potential in Hye and we worked and worked until she was booking campaigns and on the cover of multiple issues of Vogue.

The same goes for our models' figures.  We will never tell a model she needs to weigh a certain amount, the actual pounds don't matter to us.  We will tell a model that we need her to be at the ideal size for her specific body.  We also give our models suggestions and tips to get to their peak physical form in a healthy way.  Crash diets and going without eating are not good for our models and are not sustainable in the long term.  Some of our models have very thin builds, others are more athletic, some are more curvy, and we celebrate that.  We just want our models to look their personal best, not like someone else's standards of beauty.  In the long run, you can only be yourself, and when you are confident in that you are your most beautiful.

Health Tip: Drinking Water with Lemon

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas yesterday, and if you don't celebrate Christmas we hope you had a great day off.  We get asked by our models all the time what the best ways are to lose weight, or gain muscle tone, and how to be overall more healthy.  We are HUGE proponents of not being a slave to your scale, but to creating healthy habits that will help you achieve your individual ideal body.  We constantly warn our models about the dangers of crash diets, and that there is no easy shortcut.  At Pulse Management we have decided that we will periodically post health and lifestyle tips when we think they can benefit our models and readers.

We came across THIS ARTICLE about starting the day with a glass of warm water with lemon. We have heard that this is helpful, but we liked this article because it itemized why this is good for your body.  After all of my holiday eating, starting the morning off with a cup of water lemon sounds like the perfect thing to do! Now if only we can convince Stacey Eastman (Pulse Management President) to switch this out for his Red Bull...
