NYFW: Demarchalier Exhibit Draws Top Models

A couple of days ago, Christie's (the famous Auction house) hosted a party to preview photographer Patrick Demarchalier's new exhibit.  The fete drew a crowd that can be described as A-list without any hyperbole.  When you have Demarchalier himself, along with Grace Coddington, Tonne Goodman, Coco Rocha, Martha Hunt, and not one but TWO Pulse models in the room, it is a HUGE deal.  To prove that we aren't the only ones who think this is noteworthy, you can check out Vogue's write up of the party here.

Pulse Management discovered both Hannah Holman and Tori Praver in their respective hometowns, and then launched their careers, and took them out of obscurity onto their own covers of Vogue.  To see them celebrating a photographer like Demarchalier with their peers is awesome to us, because it just shows how far they have come since we found them. Yesterday we blogged about Pulse Management discovery Tori Praver and her three covers of Elle Italia.  In case you are wondering what she is up to now, she recently landed the Dennis Basso F/W 15 ad campaign alongside Chanel Iman.  You may know of the designer Dennis Basso because two of our models walked in his latest runway show, as we documented here.  

A Dennis Basso campaign is a big deal in the fashion world, previous models who have been in his campaigns are Coco Rocha, Naomi Campbell and the incomparable Iman.  The campaign had an article about it on WWD that you can read HERE.  Congrats Tori, we are looking forward to seeing more pics from the campaign when they are released.

MAJOR MOMENT MONDAY: Tori Praver Covers Elle Magazine THREE TIMES

For today's Major Moment Monday we are highlighting Tori Praver's THREE covers of Elle Italia.  Getting a cover of a magazine is exciting, but can you imagine landing three covers of not just any magazine, of an Elle Magazine?  This was and still is huge, and we are excited all over again just writing about it. Below are some of the photos from the accompanying editorials from these cover shoots.

We discovered Tori in Hawaii and then launched her modeling career.  She has gone on to become not only one of our most successful models, but she is a swimwear designer, and a wife and mother.  It's hard to imagine what she would be up to now if we never scouted her, but we are so glad we did!

I don't know if jeans have ever looked as good as when Pulse Management discovery, Tori Praver, is wearing them. These images for the Spring/Summer 2014 Buffalo advertising campaign are everything a denim ad should be.  Tori sure has come a long way (including snagging a Vogue Cover) since we discovered her in her hometown in Hawaii!

The Financial Realities of Modeling

Recently Forbes Magazine published their annual article ranking the Highest-Paid Models in the world.  While it is easy to be enticed by hearing about their multi-million dollar fortunes, it is important for potential models to know that these women are the exception, not the rule.  Forbes teamed with VFiles to create the below video explaining more about the financial side of the modeling industry.  Models can quickly go into debt when they are starting because their agencies are paying for a lot of things in their behalf, but they expect to be paid back out of your future earnings. This is why it is so important to have experienced model management guiding your career.  

At Pulse Management, we keep in mind our model's financial situations and we enough experience in the industry to know what jobs to advise our models to take to earn them money, but not to diminish their editorial possibilities.  For example, a catalogue job for Walmart may pay big money, but the top tier of fashion jobs (Vogue, Fashion Week Runways, Luxury Advertising Campaigns like Chanel, Prada, etc.) are not going to hire a model who previously worked for Walmart.   We send our models overseas so they gain experience, are guaranteed our negotiated sum of money, and then they are still seen as desirable for the high fashion jobs we pursue.  It takes a long time to understand this industry enough, and we have learned the ropes in our 20+ years of business.  

This is not to say that you cannot be successful in the industry.  Quite the contrary actually, we have managed or currently manage some of the top models in the industry (Ali Stephens, Hannah Holman, Hye Rim Park, Tori Praver, Liz Kennedy, Natalie Keyser, etc).  We know how to become successful because we have done it with our models time and time again. Whether you are signed with Pulse Management or not, we feel a responsibility to educate those who want to be in the modeling industry about these things, so you do not become a victim of a greedy agency who doesn't care how much debt you ring up while they attempt to get you work. Hopefully this will help some of you!

MAJOR MOMENT MONDAY: Tori Praver for Guess

When a model lands an ad campaign, its a big deal.  When a model lands a campaign for the iconic fashion brand Guess, it is a MAJOR deal.  Pulse Management discovery, Tori Praver, was the face of Guess for a few different campaigns.  She followed in the footsteps of supermodels like Claudia Schiffer and Eva Hertzigova.  Soon after her work with Guess, Tori appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue a few years in a row.  These days Tori still models, but she also keeps busy designing a swimwear line, and being a mom in her home state of Hawaii.  It's amazing to think how much her life has changed since we scouted her and launched her modeling career.

MAJOR MOMENT MONDAY: Tori Praver's Vogue Cover

For today's MAJOR MOMENT MONDAY, we are revisiting when Tori Praver was solo on the cover of Russian Vogue.  For any model, a Vogue cover is the ultimate job, and it is even sweeter when you are the only model on the cover.  

We discovered Tori in her home state, Hawaii, and she went on to do some amazing things.  She modeled for Victoria's Secret, Guess, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and many other high profile jobs.  These days Tori is a swimwear designer and a mother, who still models from time to time.

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show on TV Tonight!

Tonight the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is airing on CBS.  This is arguably the biggest fashion show of the year, especially if you are considering viewership numbers.  Working for Victoria's Secret is one of the biggest jobs a model can get.  If you think about it, you probably know a lot of the VS Angels by their first names (Karlie, Lily, Doutzen, Behati, Candice, Adriana, Alessandra, etc).  The VS Angels are our generations answer to the supermodels of the 90s.  

We do not have any of our models in the show airing tonight, but at Pulse Management, we have been lucky enough to have two of our models work for VS Hannah Holman and Tori Praver.  We think we have a couple of girls that are ready to walk to VS catwalk next year, lets see if we can make it happen!  Any of our models reading this, are you going to be our next girl to work with VS?
