MAJOR MOMENT MONDAY: Sophia Skloss for Delpozo

Sophia's first look in the show

Last week while some of the Pulse Management crew was in New York City for Fashion Week, we  had the pleasure to watch our model Sophia Skloss in the Delpozo Spring 2016 Ready-to-wear show. We went to dinner with Sophia and her mom Karin, the night before the show and she was telling us all about how chaotic fashion week had been, but also about how much she was loving it.

It was such a treat getting to watch Sophia walk the runway, especially at a show as beautiful as this one.  One of the things I loved the most about watching this particular show, is that the hair and makeup wasn't over the top, it just allowed the models to look like themselves.  (My front row seat (!!!) also helped me see all of the details of the clothing, bags, and shoes that may have been harder to catch by viewing the pictures online later)

While we were waiting for the show to start we had the opportunity to chat with Sophia's mom, and I have to say how impressed I was with both her and Sophia.  She mentioned that as parents, she and Sophia's dad prioritize Sophia's education and her grades.  When she wanted to go to this NYFW, her dad said she would only be able to go if her grades were at a certain level. So Sophia worked hard and got her grades where they needed to be so she would be able to walk in the shows.  Sometimes being a model looks glamorous (which it can be), but there is also a lot of work that goes into it, including keeping up with your school work, and it shows a lot about Sophia that she is willing to put in the work so she can continue with her career.

Sophia is currently in London walking the runways for London Fashion week, and we will keep you updated on all of her exciting bookings there. In the meantime enjoy these photos and videos that will give you a behind the scenes and up close look at this amazingly beautiful fashion show.

Fashion News Live Interview and Inside Amato Premiere

Rocco Leo Gaglioti and Stacey Eastman at the film premiere

Last night some members of the Pulse Management team were able to attend the New York City premiere of the movie Inside Amato by Furne One, and the Art Hearts Fashion Week Gala after it.  If you remember we, we partnered with Fashion News Live for fashion week coverage, and hopefully you have been checking out their videos here.

Fashion News Live founder, Rocco Leo Gaglioti, directed the film and we loved being able to see his passion for the industry come through on the screen.  Stacey was invited to do an interview on the red carpet, and as soon as we get the footage we will post it for you all to see.

We spend so much time working on managing and finding out models, it was such a treat to go out for a night with some of our Pulse Management team members, who at this point are pretty much family!

Pulse Management's Mother's Day Tribute

Bree (Pulse Mgmt Scout) and her son Sylver

We can't emphasize enough how much we value and appreciate mothers.  Not only in the home but their contributions to society are too big to be measured.  The Pulse Management team is made up of a lot of mothers, and we know how fiercely protective mothers are of their children.  This is why we take our jobs so seriously as model managers, because we know we are dealing with someone else's son or daughter.  Many of our scouts are mothers, along with our Chief Operating Officer, and our Head of Public Relations, and we hope they all had a happy Mother's Day.

We also love and admire our models' moms!  We have seen mothers drop everything, time and time again, to hop on a flight with their child for a photo shoot or runway show.  These mothers are their model's biggest cheerleaders and biggest supporters and we love them for it.

Scrolling through instagram we saw a few tributes to mothers from our team, that we wanted to share with you.

New Liz Kennedy Video

You guys.  We are so proud of this video we made for our girl Liz Kennedy.  Not only does it showcase her flawless beauty, but it also gives you a behind the scenes look into how we launch a model, but why we do it.  As you can tell by our blog, we love our models and we love introducing new models into this crazy fashion world.  We shot this short film shortly before Liz left for her first international contract, a trip to Tokyo for a guaranteed $25,000.  Which is pretty unheard of for a brand new model. We hope you enjoy this video, and that it helps give you more insight into our company and our passion for the modeling industry. Enjoy!

We absolutely loved seeing everyone's pictures on instagram under the #pulsemgmtholidays.  It was such a treat getting to see our models with their families and sharing their holiday pictures with us.  We think this will have to be an annual thing for us at Pulse, because we love seeing our models in their homes with their nearest and dearest.  This was the closest thing that we could get to spending the holidays with all of you.  While we can't post every picture that was posted, here are a few.  If you want to see all of them, check them out on Instagram.  (Also, are you following us yet on Instagram? A Few of our Favorite People

Lisa (Head of Pulse Mgmt PR), Shayna (Pulse Mgmt COO), Stacey (Pulse Mgmt President), Liz (Future Supermodel), and Jen (Liz's mom)

We had a busy weekend, which we will share all of the details with you soon!  All the stars aligned on Friday night and we were able to have some of our favorite people at one table.  Liz and her mom escaped the cold in Minnesota and were in LA for some photo shoots.  Stacey, Shayna and Lisa were in LA for the Dolls Model Mgmt test shoots.  We all met up at an Eastman family favorite restaurant, The Stinking Rose in Beverly Hills.

We had a great dinner, and had a chance to chat with Liz about her whirlwind month.  While at dinner we were reminded of what is going to make Liz so successful.  Her look is immaculate, her go-with-the-flow attitude, willingness to make modeling her top priority, and her awesome family support are all combining to make Liz a force to be reckoned with. We hope Liz and Jen have a rest of their trip out in LA, and enjoy being home for the holidays.  Next stop for Liz is Tokyo, and then who knows?! (We personally think she is going to be our next girl to be on the cover of Vogue, we have done it 19 times before so we are speaking from experience)

PULSE MGMT'S LISA HONG PUBLISHES AGIAN ! GIRL YOUR KNOWLAGE AND PASSION FOR THE INDUSTRY KILLS!!!

When Derek Lam showed his first collection at Fashion Week in 2003, fashion editors and insiders labeled him an overnight sensation. Lam, however, had many years of fashion experience and training that lead to his big debut and “instant” success, including attending the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York and working at Michael Kors.

Lam was born in San Francisco, California in 1967 and has soaked up fashion ever since. Life experiences have refined his design skills and perfected his eye for creating classic designs with luxurious details. Lam’s looks are not flashy or gaudy; they are well-tailored, sophisticated pieces with an understated elegance.

Derek’s luxe pieces have earned him many A-list clients, including Liv Tyler and Gwyneth Paltrow. Lam’s clothing is not for women who crave attention and like to court the spotlight. The success of his clothes thrives on chic and refined women who appreciate timeless garments that are impeccably made with plush materials.

His Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear collection was Derek Lam at his finest. His collection was made of pieces that highlighted a woman’s body without showing too much skin. Many of these pieces work well for the summer season, because they are perfect just as they are, without adding extra layers and bulk. This collection utilized the drawstring: Lam created comfortable, loose blouses, dresses, and tunics, pulled in at the natural waist to keep the wearer from getting lost in the fabric. He also included one of the biggest trends of this spring and summer, the jumpsuit, in varying lengths.

His color palette of tan, khaki, white, and black was a subtle choice compared to other lines of the season. However, the subdued colors really let his textile selection and designs take center stage.

Lam used a few pieces as exclamation marks in this collection of neutrals. He showcased sequined mini-dresses, a tomato-red tank dress, a canary skirt and blouse ensemble, and a few pieces in copper lamé. His looks were somehow classic, yet right on trend with the subtle design elements he used to play with their silhouettes.

While the fame and accolades came to Lam relatively quickly after his debut—his company has not yet reached its 10-year anniversary—he clearly is not a flash in the pan. With his client base, editorial presence, and design know-how, Derek Lam will be a power player in the fashion world for years to come.

frida kahlo

Frida Kahlo made a name for herself as an artist by taking her life’s pain and turning it into honest masterpieces. She is probably most known for her innovative and, at times, haunting self-portraits.

Her work was influenced heavily by her childhood bout with polio and her grueling recovery from a near-fatal bus accident. Many of her paintings from this time show how she viewed herself and her damaged but healing body. Frida was not one to mask her feelings with her art: she took each wound and put it on the canvas, and perhaps that is why her work has resonated with so many people.

Frida was born in Mexico in 1907, right before the tumultuous times of the Mexican Revolution. Her work and clothing often showcased the bright colors and cultural symbols of her native country.

Frida was an unconventional style icon. Her hair was almost always pulled back, with bright blossoms pinned in. Not an accessory minimalist, she wore big earrings and bold, layered necklaces of bright beads and gold. She added rings on many of her fingers. Red lips finished off her look perfectly.

She was frequently photographed in dresses and blouse-and-peasant-skirt combinations that were popular among women in Mexico at the time. Her clothing reflected the colors and overall tone seen in her paintings. Clothing in bright colors, like red and turquoise, along with her bold use of accessories, made her look iconic.

She was a unique individual who did not try to gloss over her troubles: instead she transformed them into something positive. People can still see her works and be touched by the raw emotion of each painting. We are inspired not just by her look, but also by her attitude, fearlessness, and strength.

In a world where celebrities are famous for what they wear while they are going on coffee runs, it is not hard to get nostalgic for the days of film when actors were known for their acting. One film star who personified these golden days of cinema is Greta Garbo. Notoriously private, Greta Garbo shied away from publicity, never granting interviews or attending premieres. She was known for her body of work, her style on-screen, and her never-lost shroud of mystery.

She was born Greta Lovisa Gustafsson in Stockholm, Sweden in 1905. She began acting as a teenager and then went on to study acting at the Royal Dramatic Theater Academy in Stockholm. After achieving success in Swedish films and changing her name to Greta Garbo, she headed to Hollywood.

Garbo was arguably the most famous of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer–produced starlets. She acted first in silent films, transitioning seamlessly when film began to include sound. During her 19-year film career, some of her most notable roles were in the movies The Temptress, Anna Christie, Grand Hotel, and Anna Karenina. She was nominated for four Academy Awards, and she won an honorary one in 1954 for “her unforgettable screen performances.”

Greta Garbo passed away in 1990 at the age of 84. She has been immortalized on a U.S. postage stamp, in the Guinness Book of World Records as “the most beautiful woman who ever lived,” and even in a Madonna song.

In just a few short years, Monique Lhuillier emerged as one of the leaders in the bridal industry. Before Monique, there was basically one name the fashion elite turned to for their wedding dresses: Vera Wang. In today's wedding magazines, however, the name Monique Lhuillier comes up just as frequently as Vera Wang’s. Lhuillier is also making herself a known-by-name designer in the ready-to-wear realm. She counts fashionistas such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Debra Messing, Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon, Brooke Shields, and Rachel Bilson as her fans.

Her rise to the upper echelon of the notoriously difficult world of fashion has been unconventional, but being out of the ordinary is nothing new for Monique. She was born in the Philippines, went to high school in Switzerland, and attended fashion design school in (gasp) Los Angeles. Most of today's known-by-name designers attended school in New York, but Lhuillier preferred to attend L.A.'s Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. After graduation Monique realized the lack of high-end fashion companies in Los Angeles, but she kept her commitment to California. By keeping her headquarters in L.A., Monique has put the Golden State back on the map for couture fashion.

During her own difficult search to find a wedding dress, Lhuillier saw a need in the bridal industry and decided to fill it. With new husband Tom Bugbee as her business partner, Monique unveiled her introductory bridal collection in 1996. Not content with conquering just the bridal industry, in 2001 Monique showed her first ready-to-wear collection at Bryant Park in New York.

Her fashions are feminine and are unabashedly pretty. She uses silk, chiffon, and tulle, with various prints and trims, which highlight the beauty of a woman’s body. Her spring 2009 ready-to-wear collection was a perfect blend of her many talents: it included frothy-skirted evening gowns, voluminous blouses with fitted pencil skirts, and smart suits that you would only see on the most fashionable women in the workplace.

Monique was inducted into the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2003. She has received several design awards and much praise from many of the top fashion magazines in the world. Recently Lhuillier has expanded her brand to include handbags and the Monique Lhuillier for Royal Doulton collection of tableware.

Lhuillier is a family-oriented woman. Her husband handles the business side of their growing fashion empire, as he has since the company’s inception. Her fashionable and glamorous mother is also an influence on Monique’s designs.

Monique Lhuillier has continued to stray from the norm in her career, but she has made her successes look graceful and almost effortless, much like her beautiful designs.
