Olivia Hamilton on Health

Well apparently this week is Liz and Olivia week, but these two beautiful best friends keep providing us with material that is too good not to share with all of you. Yesterday morning Olivia Hamilton posted a Facebook status about health that really verbalized exactly what we try to tell our models all the time. In order to model you have to have a certain figure, and really it is more about keeping up your overall health, than just losing weight. In order to be able to model you have to have the stamina to be in front of the camera (which sometimes entails running, jumping, dancing, etc.), not to mention be able to run from casting to casting, and be able to do a lot of it in stilettos. Having models who will be able to keep themselves healthy is key, because if a model is starving herself to just be thin there is no way she will be able to keep up with her career (not to mention how unhealthy that is!).

Olivia said, "I think a lot of people struggle with the concept of health. Just because someone's skinny doesn't mean they are healthy and just because someone is healthy doesn't mean they are skinny. Any size person can be malnourished and any size person can be healthy to a degree. The difference is a diet of veggies, fruit, lean proteins, and whole grains versus a diet of skipping meals, restricting calories, etc. With the right amount of healthy portion control, healthy foods, and exercising, your results will be far better than the other route. I don't understand why people choose to do it the unhealthy way instead of increase their life span and live a happy, healthy life. In the long run that's what matters."

So the moral of the story is, we want you all to be healthy, especially as the New Year approaches and everyone is making their resolutions. Don't look for short cuts to a perfect body, instead focus on your overall health and choose a way to get healthy that you can sustain for the long run.

Polaroids: Everything You Need to Know About Them

We get asked all the time about why models have to take "polaroids" and why they need to update them so often.  Beauty Look Magazine recently wrote an article about the importance of polaroids (along with having a portfolio or a "book" of one's modeling work).  If you are a model or want to be, please do yourself a favor and read this article! The next time you are asked to submit polaroids, don't complain or ask why, just do it!  If Kate Upton still has to submit her polaroids, so do you!

The Reality of Being a Model

This week Pulse Management's Armon Eastman had a taste of disappointment that all models face at one point or another.  As you may have read on our blog (or other social media), Armon is beginning his modeling career and has already had some amazing experiences.  From test shoots in LA and New York, to meeting with one of the best fashion photographers (Steven Meisel), to being placed on option for Prada and Burberry, Armon's career took off faster than a lot of models.  Armon was recently informed that he was released from being on option from Burberry and Prada.  Obviously that is not what any model wants to hear, but we thought we would take this moment to have some honest dialogue about what it is like working as a model.  

The fashion industry is a mercurial one, and any model will tell you they have had their fair share of disappointments along with their successes.  The very fact that Armon was placed on option for two of the biggest designers on the planet, speaks volumes about his potential as a model.  The fact that he was released on option does not mean that he did anything wrong or that there is anything wrong with him.  I REPEAT THIS TO ALL MODELS, just because you do not book a job does not mean you are ugly or a bad model, or not good enough.  It means the companies had something else in mind for their project, and a lot of the time the reasons are beyond your control.  In Armon's case it was because he is too young.  Other times it is because a model is too tall, too short, too blonde, not blonde enough, teeth too straight, or not straight enough, the reasons are endless.

Pulse Management President, Stacey Eastman, is not only Armon's manager, he is Armon's father.  This has given us a unique perspective into how this business can affect our models.  Stacey said the following about this situation:

"I feel I need to post this due to my son being released on option for Burberry & Prada. Due to all the excitement we had about him being placed on those options, we posted about those on our social media.  To put it into perspective, in our world option means that those prestigious clothing companies PICKED him out of thousands of guys and chose to put him on "option" to walk wearing their clothing. Which is why we said "option" MIND YOU IT USUALLY NEVER HAPPENS THAT FAST FOR A NEW  MODEL. We use that to gauge the potential of their carrier and that is massive. He was released from the "OPTION" only due to being so "NEW" so "YOUNG" even though we feel bad it didn't confirm at the last second is sad. None the less it's miraculous such designers wanted him exclusively till the very last second  and then released him. For sure this tells us ITS NOT IF THIS KID'S GOING TO WORK, BUT WHEN AND WE KNOW HIS SUCCESS WILL BE BIG! So to friends, family, fans, it's a tuff blow. A lesson every successful model has had to learn to reach the top. Fact is, he even had the lesson to learn so big so fast, speaks volumes of his potential. Times on his and our side. Please cut the kid some slack and his very proud father and manager as we continue building his and all of our other amazing models' careers.  ALL THE TIME FOR AND IN BEHALF OF THE FUTURE ROCK STARS OF TOMORROW!!

We would like to hope that this post will help you all see what it is really like being a model.  You get to travel to amazing places and see yourself in magazines and get to wear clothing that most people only dream about.  It also can be really humbling, and heartbreaking and you  have to learn really fast that your self-worth does not depend on what others think of you.  Unfortunately in life there are people who enjoy seeing other people not succeed.  Whether it is kids at our models' schools or comments on the internet, we hope that our model's realize that those people are not the people they need to impress.  People's comments and negativity is a reflection on them, NOT YOU.

We love all of our models, and know that everything worth having has to be worked for.  We are here to help you navigate the ups and downs of being a model. We are just as proud of you for how you deal with your rejections as for your successes.

Model Advice

*People always ask us - Do you need to get a portfolio and or images?

*Answer: NO not to get an agent or manager interested in you EVER! However you DO need one to get a job or jobs from clients all over the world! Period.

*Some clients will "ADVANCE" others will suggest people that can put it togethor or figuer it out on your own? Either way must be a very strong representaion of you after all this is literaly your global resume.

**@ Pulse Mgmt we simpley do not just submitt you to agents or agencies like other "managers" or so called "agents" do. We book you the jobs and place you with our many patners and alliances such as elite, ford, trump, one ,women marylin and and many others around the world.

*Do we "Advance for a Portfolio?"

Answer: NO, Here's Why: Actually every model around the world PAY for thier own book its either upfront and they own it and the rights of usage or the agency that advances owns it. The rights and usages are in control of that manager, agency until the "Advance" is paid back. Either way YOU end up PAYING. Do not be fooled by an "ADVANCE" it's like a Credit Card! Worse yet you allow a manager and or agency to "Advance"for your book and you agree to pay it off out of or from the jobs they get you, you also throw your morals and standards right out the window potentially. The agency you have made this agreement with will push you for any and all jobs until PAID BACK or wait till your 18 and parents are out of the loop and then really start to push you and with a MASSIVE ADVANCE and or DEBIT that must be PAID BACK NOW whether you end up working or don't you Pay It Back. Again it's a Credit Card. Let alone your school activities , grades, tests, sports that may get in the way of a job. Bottom line ADVANCES are great if you do not want to monitor your debit that any agency can charge and DO Charge let alone compromise your morals and ethics, because the deal you made was and is to pay it back from work they get you! The industry is full of it. Better to be in control then having someone else "Being out of control with your image let alone your bank account or credit card" Think about it people you are they PAY either way YOU END UP PAYING!

*Bottom Line why dont you just take it from two of the worlds most powerful models ever!
